5 Tips to Improve Working From Home
Working from can be a dream come true or a complete nightmare depending on how you go about it, so here are five top tips on how to improve your work from home experience.
1 Light
Lighting is important for your place of work and natural light is best. If you can work near a window, great, otherwise make sure you have enough artificial light of the right type close to where you are working.
Everyone’s eyes are different and some people prefer more or less light and different intensities of light, but it is worth buying some additional lights or desk lamps and maybe upping the wattage on your main room light bulb if it is quite a dim one.
2 Remove Distractions
This can often be easier said than done, but there are lots of ways to help make your working sessions at home more productive:
- Wear headphones
- Tell family members not to disturb you
- Close the door to the room you are in
- Face away from a window if there is an interesting view outside
If you don’t have the benefit of a dedicated home office then wearing headphones is a great way to block out a lot of noise, even if you don’t have anything playing. It may also reduce the chances of you being disturbed by someone wanting to chat, like a partner or child.
3 Exercise Before You Start Work
Exercise benefits both your physical and mental health and a morning work out will make you feel energised and virtuous for the whole day.
If you exercise early before anyone else in your household is awake you can have a bit more privacy and freedom for your workout and even use your office space for the workout and then rearrange the furniture back to an office space again before you start work.
4 Work and Relax in Different Places
If possible, work in a room or at a desk where you wouldn’t normally relax in. If you try to work in your living room where the TV (and Netflix) is, the temptation might be too much.
Having a space which you mentally designate as a ‘working’ area and not a ‘fun’ place will help you to focus and be more productive.
Having a dedicated office space to work in is always best, which is why it is top of the list…..
5 Make Yourself a Dedicated Office
