Adding an extra bedroom with a loft conversion can significantly increase the value of your property, as well as improving your quality of life.
At Amazing Loft Conversions we manage the process of converting your loft into a beautiful bedroom from start to finish. We manage the design, the local authority applications, and the construction to ensure that the whole process is completely hassle free for you.
Whether you are creating a simple guest bedroom or a dream pad for a teenager, there are lots of options and features to choose from.
• Do you want an en-suite?
• Roof lights in the sloping roof or a window balcony?
• Dormers to increase the usable space?
• A Juliet balcony in the gable perhaps?
Creating a bedroom with an en-suite is a sure-fire way to increase the value of your home but adding a balcony feature or a large airy room with lots of light can make your loft extension a focal point of the house.
No two loft conversions are ever the same and many of the choices you make will be determined by the size and shape of your existing roof space. There are typically four types of loft conversion:
• Roof Light Conversion
• Dormer Conversion
• Hip-to-Gable Conversion
• Mansard Conversion
To see details about how much each type of loft conversion typically costs, see this article on our website here. https://amazinglofts.co.uk/loft-conversion/
Roof Light Loft Conversions
A roof light conversion is the simplest type of loft conversion because the shape of the roof remains unchanged and there are only minimal structural alterations required to fit roof lights.
The only downside to a roof light conversion is that it provides less usable space than any of the other types of loft conversion.
Roof lights are used very often in loft conversions, but more commonly in combination with dormers, rather than just on their own.
Dormer Loft Conversions
Dormer conversions are the most popular type of loft conversion and add a significant amount of extra usable space to a loft.
Adding dormers will change the shape of a roof, which makes it more expensive than just having roof lights but there are several benefits to having dormers:
• More space / head room
• Standard window units can be installed
• Juliet Balconies or Doors can be installed in them (for access to balconies)
A hip-to-gable conversion can only be done on properties with hipped roofs. This type of loft conversion extends the ridge of a roof and essentially removes the ‘hipped’ section of the roof and replaces it with a gable.
Hip-to-gable loft conversions require substantial amount of work on the roof structure, but they do create a lot of usable space and can be combined with dormers to create even more space.
A mansard loft conversion essentially creates an entire extra floor on your property within the roof. The existing sloping roof is replaced with a mansard or ‘Dutch-Barn’ shaped roof which is quite flat in the middle and almost vertical at the edges.
This type of loft conversion is the most expensive but offers the most usable floor area of any type of conversion.
